Happy Monday everyone! Last week I was in New York City for a meeting with The Travel Corporation - a really fantastic family owned company that really does go above and beyond for their clients. While there I had the opportunity to learn in depth about what they do and I have to say, I was impressed by the genuine passion they have for ensuring your experience surpasses all expectation. My brother lives in the city so I figured I would get together with him and his girlfriend for dinner but first I thought - how about a quick tour? I have been to New York more times than I can recall since I only live a couple hours away but I have honestly never had a tour of anything. I opted for a 'behind the scenes' tour of Grand Central Terminal.
I honestly was not expecting much - but I really was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I have seen Grand Central plenty of times but I saw it through a whole new lens during my tour. We went places I had never been and then there were things right in front of me that I had 'seen' a hundred times in my life but never really stopped to understand or appreciate it. It really was eye-opening. Who knew that there are tennis courts in Grand Central station? Right behind the central three windows in the picture above? I certainly didn't.
I believe that there is something to be said for becoming a 'tourist' in your hometown sometime. Even though many (including myself) have scoffed or given irritated glances to tour groups as we hurry about our day, it really was enlightening to be a member of a small group. I am sure that we all have places that we have walked through or past and never really stopped to fully appreciate or understand. This quick tour only took an hour but I gained a whole new appreciation for Grand Central Terminal and its history. Certainly time well spent! Looking forward to taking another tour sometime soon!
