Spotlight on Hotel Grande Bretagne, Nafplio
Did reading about the delightful little town of Nafplio earlier this week whet your appetite for a visit? If so, the Hotel Grande Bretagne would be a nice place to stay while in town. Nafplio has old-world charm to spare, and Hotel Grande Bretagne fits right in. The location is excellent, right on the harbor and a very short walk to anywhere you want to go in town. With only 20 rooms and suites, the hotel has a distinct charm and the attentive staff are delighted to see to your every need.
The Attic Suite, below, is particularly lovely
Many rooms have sea views and there are several with private balconies. Snag one with a balcony if you can, as the views are definitely worth it. The hotel also offers a large spread for breakfast as well as a bar and 24 hour room service. If you are in town during the summer, there are several beaches only a short walk from the hotel including Arvanitia and Karathona. If you want to venture a little bit farther afield, check out the beaches in Tolo or Ag. Nikolaus. In addition to the beach, Tolo also has wonderful waterside restaurants that are full of locals - so you know the food has to be good! A sunset walk around the Nafplio peninsula should not be missed as well. You can head out from the hotel and take a left - you will see the path as it is a popular spot to walk. At the point there is a church and if you time it right, you will be walking under the church right when you can hear singing from the service inside.
Hotel Grande Bretagne has a perfect location on the harbor
One of the many reasons to visit Nafplio is that it has temperate weather year round, so the hotel will be particularly relaxing in the 'off' season while still allowing for a lovely visit of the historic town and the neighboring ancient sites of Epidavros, Mycenae, and Tiryns. Also worth a visit is the ancient site of Argos and the nearby villages Kefalari and Elliniko.
Overall, Nafplio is a delightful town full of charm and Hotel Grande Bretagne is a worthy base from which to explore the winding streets, historic castles, beautiful beaches, and delicious restaurants.
