The African Safari

Going on safari in Africa is on many bucket lists, and for good reason. The continent is unlike anywhere else - the people, wildlife, culture, food, music, and awe inspiring landscapes all come together to make your African vacation truly once-in-a-lifetime. But where should you go? That is a complex answer and is really based on your personality and unique travel style. But here we give you a quick overview of just a handful of your many options.

South Africa is one of the most popular destinations for international travelers. It is easily accessible from many North American cities, has a good road system which makes getting around relatively easy, and an abundance of 'other' adventure activities besides safari such as hiking and shark diving (hugely popular!). South Africa is also home to numerous fine vineyards and one of the world's great food capitals - Cape Town. From five star city hotels to luxury train rides and tented camps, South Africa is the destination for everyone.

Zimbabwe is emerging as a contender for some of the best safari experiences on the continent. Here you will see the truly awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Canoe through rivers, see watering holes visited by all manner of wildlife, and view the famous floodplains. Zimbabwe is in the true heart of Africa, and serves up day after day or fantastic sunrises, wildlife viewing, and star studded night skies. Make sure to spend some time shopping for local crafts to bring home the beautiful carvings the country is known for!

Botswana is a beloved destination by those looking for an authentic and sustainable African tourism. The friendly people, wide variety of stunning landscapes, and boutique accommodation have made Botswana a bucket list destination even within Africa. From canoeing the lush Okavango Delta to meeting bushmen in the lunar landscape of the Makgadikgadi basin, there is no limit to the unique and memorable things to see and do here. The majority of accommodations are kept to an intimate 25 people, although there are some in Chobe National Park which are a bit bigger.

Looking for something a bit different? Then Rwanda is the destination for you. Lush, verdant, landscapes (home to 670 types of birds and over 100 orchid species), hills shrouded in mist and inhabited by the endangered Mountain Gorilla, Rwanda is a paradise for conservationists and bird waters. In addition to the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to see chimpanzees and golden monkeys while trekking the hills. Rounding out the many reasons to visit is, of course, the friendly and welcoming people who are eager to share their beautiful country with you.

The Seychelles are the ideal way to top off your African adventure. After your time spent on safari, what better way to relax than by visiting one of these stunning 92 islands. Snorkel amongst pristine coral reefs, stroll through lush botanical gardens, experience the fragrant cinnamon and vanilla plantations, or simply lay on the beach and enjoy the peace of this unique paradise.

Looking for a little more inspiration? Don't forget there are a number of other destinations in Africa! Perhaps Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Egypt, Namibia, Mozambique, Mauritius, Madagascar, or even the classic destination of Kenya would be more your style. Give us a call if you want to know more!
