The Complexities of Event Travel

Having just returned home from Monterey, California where my husband ran the Big Sur International Marathon and having gone through the process of planning my own visit to Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings this June, I have some very personal experience with the complexities of planning travel for a special event.

Whether you want to travel to the Kentucky Derby, the Tokyo Olympics, the Grand Prix de Monaco, or to London for Trooping the Colour, travel for special events can be much more difficult to plan than if you were to visit these destinations at any other time. For this sort of travel it is particularly important to work with an insider who can get you access to the places you want to go. Some of these events (such as the Rio Carnaval or Venice's Redentore Festival) happen every year, yet many are once-in-a-lifetime experiences that will never happen again. For events that will never happen again it is extremely important to ensure that you plan far enough ahead of time so that accomodations, transfers, tickets, and tours can all be arranged well before there is no more availability.

Planning event travel goes far beyond the simple addition of event tickets to an otherwise standard itinerary. Simple things that need to be taken into account include possible closures or changes to public transportation, increased transfer time due to road closures or diversions, possible language barriers for navigating event spaces, limited or no availability of hotels and restaurant reservations, and so much more. There is, however, also the opportunity to truly enhance your experience by working with us. Since you might be so overwhlemed from the difficulty in simply securing tickets and hotels to an event, you might skip out on sightseeing since it would be too difficult. Yet when we plan travel for an event, you can rest assured that is always part of your schedule! So if you want to visit local horse farms while you're in town for the Kentucky Derby or watch the Grand Prix de Monaco from the deck of a yacht, let us know! The opportunities availble to you when you work with us are truly endless.
